How it began

Grand Traverse Musicale, originally Traverse City Musicale, was founded in 1932, and has been supporting, sharing, and offering music to the community ever since.

The mission of the Grand Traverse Musicale is to support and encourage young musicians through scholarships, and to present quality musical and outreach programs.

Membership is open to everyone and consists of musicians, teachers, and music lovers in general This is a wonderful place to connect with other people who want to nurture young talent, and believe that music is the universal language and offers deep personal enrichment.

MONTHLY MEETINGS

Meetings are held in May and September through December. There is no meeting in June. The June programs feature the new Scholarship winners and are held in the evening at 6:30 pm and 8:00pm. Our December program offers a Christmas Bazaar at noon and a concert at 1:00pm. All meetings are held at the Mission Hill Church (formerly First Congregational Church), located at 6105 Center Road, Traverse City, MI 49686.

Grand Traverse Musicale will offer scholarships in four performance categories: Strings, Winds & Percussion, Keyboard, and Voice. Scholarships will be awarded to grades 7-8 and 9-11.  Seniors planning to study music in college, please see the College Awards page in the Scholarships drop-down menu above. Students may be home-schooled or enrolled in private or public school anywhere in the 5 county area (Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Antrim, Kalkaska). They should have at least one year of music study. Vocalists need to be thirteen years of age by March 1, 2025. There are no age restrictions for instrumentalists. Only one application may be accepted per student. Two instruments may be played as long as they are within the same genre (e.g. piano and organ). Please use accompaniment if your music has accompaniment. Only those applying for College Awards need to provide copies of their music (more details in the Scholarships drop-down menu above).

The award may be used for lessons, a music camp, summer music program or instrument purchase and will be awarded when the lessons, camp or program have been arranged by the student.  The award will be sent to the teacher or camp/program in the student's name. 

GT MUSICALE MEMBERSHIP and DUES:

Membership is open to anyone who supports our mission. Applications can be obtained at the General Membership meetings or by using the below membership form. Please pay the dues as soon as possible! There are three types of membership classifications:

Regular Single Membership: This is the same classification as we’ve always had in the past and annual dues for this type is the same, $25.00 (cash or check) and $27.00 if you pay on our website with a credit card They are due on June 30th for the following year. Dues for the 2024-2025 season have already been collected.

Couples Membership: Husband and wives can join in this classification, or two family members. Dues for this category are $35.00 annually, if paid by check or cash. On the website it will $37.00

Sustaining Membership: This is for one person who would like to support Grand Traverse Musicale at a higher level. It is a ONE year membership. Dues for this category are $100.00 for check or cash and $105.00 for dues paid on Paypal on our website.
